Hi my name is Hero and I came from Caddo Parish Shelter in LA. The shelter worker there contacted ERU and asked if they had a spot for me. He kept me several weeks and finally I had to be moved or they would put me to sleep.

Foster Mom Roxanne tried several transports but things kept falling through so after work one Friday she hopped in her truck and headed south. She arrived Saturday afternoon and after about 10 minutes I was in the seat beside her. I was covered in pee and feces and I had a very blank far aware stare.

We headed west into Texas because she had gotten a call from ERU that there was another Eskie in need in Austin. We stopped for the night a couple hours down the road. If she came near me I started to whine but she was gentle and soothing and I let her pick me up. I would not walk on a leash at all, just curl up and lie on ground. Now I will walk on the leash for my Foster Mom but am very timid about it.

I am HW positive and on the trip back to MN developed pneumonia. A four-week course of antibiotics has cleared that up. I am doing the slow kill for the HW, as my Foster Mom does not believe I would survive the aggressive treatment. She has been researching some herbal supplemental treatments for HW and they are expensive.

I was horribly abused and am very fearful of the world outside my own backyard and of any person other than my Foster Mom. I mess myself and cower.

In my own yard I am very active. I love to play with my toys tossing them in the air and catching them. I race around the yard, hopping and skipping. I do not listen to commands other than “come” from my foster Mom. I ride well in the car but am a bit nervous.

My Foster Mom took me to a friend of hers to stay for a week and I did not do well. I would run from the friend when she tried to put on a leash. If she did get it on me I screamed like I was being tortured. Again recently while my Foster Mom was gone for a couple of days the friend came to my house to care for me. I would not let her near me, screaming and yelping. If she sat I would come over to her for pets but if she tried to touch or restrain me in any way (she tried to get my belly band off) I ran and screamed. It ended up being a pretty traumatic two days for me till my Foster Mom arrived home.

Slowly she is trying to get me out and meet new people and as long as she is with me I try. We went to the groomers to get my nails clipped and she put a leash on me and I walked very slowly behind her into the office and through a bunch of people. When I got up on the table I started to whimper but she calmed me and the groomer was very gentle. I even got my tail brushed out!

So right now I am not available for adoption, but if you would like to sponsor me that would be great! My Foster Mom hopes to start me on the herbal supplements for the HW soon and I will need a lot of time and patience to get over the fear I have of the world outside!

If you have any questions please contact Roxanne, my Foster Mom at jdr@frontiernet.net

Good with Dogs

Special Needs: HW Positive

Whenever possible Eskie Rescuers United tries to adopt out its dogs locally (or at least to adopters in adjoining states to where I'm being fostered). Please note that ERU processes LOCAL adoption applications before considering those from out of state.

If I'm not local to you, as explained above, and you really have your heart set on me, you will have to make special arrangements so ERU can get me to you safely (for example, flying me to you at your own expense, or paying a transport group to drive me to you). Note: We may ask that you to make a donation to cover transport costs if the distance is great and we have trouble finding transport drivers.

There is an adoption fee required; and, please be aware, Eskie Rescuers United will not adopt out its dogs as outdoor dogs.

Eskie Rescuers United American Eskimo Dog Rescue, Inc. is an IRS-approved 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. Please click the donation button below to make a tax-deductible donation through PayPal and help make a difference to even one American Eskimo dog!
