About Emma of Ashburn Va

  • Status: Adopted!
  • Species: Dog
  • Rescue ID: 22-0020
  • Microchipped: Yes

Emma is a beautiful, gentle eskie who is shy at first but has a huge heart to love you once she gets to know you. She is fearful of strangers but has shown zero aggression.

Emma has been the PERFECT foster houseguest who clearly has been trained to respect house boundaries. She is housebroken (and talks to you when she needs to go out), walks well on a leash, does not bark (though she will howl with sirens!), and has not shown any kind of destructive behavior. She is good with fireworks and thunderstorms. She has not attempted to go up or down any stairs inside the house, so we now give her roam of the main floor of our house without gates on the stairs. We encouraged her to walk on carpet, which she now does, though she usually quickly goes back to the hardwood. She doesn’t get on furniture. She accepts bathing and grooming. I have been brushing her daily, and she seems to enjoy it now.

Now that she knows I am “safe,” Emma has bonded with me. She greets me with wiggles, waggy tail, and happy whining. She is not yet a “snuggler” but always wants to be near people. She is my constant shadow and will find a place to rest within a few feet of me when I sit for a while. She does show some anxiety when I leave the house, but she is fine sleeping on her own at night on the main floor in my office. She loves walks and hanging out outside with me in our fenced backyard.

Emma has not yet warmed up to the men in my house (husband and young adults) and keeps her distance from them, though she does let them pet her if they move slowly. She’ll get “used” to them one day and then “forget” by the next day. She is startled by sudden movements, even movements on TV. She will bolt when scared by something, and she has attempted escape out the doors, so her family will need to make sure she is well secured. She is not at all aggressive, but young children may be stressful for her if they move quickly and do not give her space.

She is friendly with other dogs we have met. We saw a video of her playing with a kitten at the shelter, but we have not had an opportunity to test her with cats since she has been with us. Generally, she is much more confident meeting other animals than people.

Emma was surrendered by a breeder to a shelter, and she is a sweet momma who is ready to enjoy a happy retirement in a calm home. She would do best with a female who is mostly home.

Whenever possible Eskie Rescuers United tries to adopt out its dogs locally (or at least to adopters in adjoining states to where I'm being fostered). Please note that ERU processes LOCAL adoption applications before considering those from out of state.

If I'm not local to you, as explained above, and you really have your heart set on me, you will have to make special arrangements so ERU can get me to you safely (for example, flying me to you at your own expense, or paying a transport group to drive me to you). Note: We may ask that you to make a donation to cover transport costs if the distance is great and we have trouble finding transport drivers.

There is an adoption fee required; and, please be aware, Eskie Rescuers United will not adopt out its dogs as outdoor dogs.

Eskie Rescuers United American Eskimo Dog Rescue, Inc. is an IRS-approved 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. Please click the donation button below to make a tax-deductible donation through PayPal and help make a difference to even one American Eskimo dog!
