Hi, Augie here!

My mommy describes me as a loving, gentle, sweet soul.   I am 8 years old, currently about 18#, neutered, heart worm negative, and up to date on all my vaccines.

Although I am blind, I don't let that stand in my way at all.  I am unaware that I have any limitations, as my senses are quite keen.  I'd sure like a forever home with a safe fenced yard, so I could run free and explore.  I walk very well on a leash - I just need for you to be aware, keep me safe, and not let me run into anything!  I will quickly learn the plan of your home and then can navigate it with no issues.  I am also very good at following you - just pat your hand on your leg and or call me and I'll find you and come right to you.

I like other animals and get along great with my mommy's other dogs.  I'm even respectful and good with the large bird that lives with us.  I'm also very well mannered.  I sit politely for my dinner and only come up on the furniture when invited.  I know I wear a harness outside and when I hear it, I wait for you to put on.  I know sit, wait and quiet.  I am house trained.

I really enjoy lots of loving and attention and I have so much fun playing ball.  Yes, ball!!   I hear a ball bounce and I can't help it, my inner puppy comes out.  I like gentle play time with my mommy and her other dogs - I sure hope my forever home has other Eskies or another dog.  She laughs when I playfully bounce around and get that happy, "Eskie smile".  Mommy also says I have such a beautiful "clydesdale" prance, which I show off with, when I am feeling sassy and playful.

My fur is a little short right now, but it will soon fluff back out.  I  thoroughly enjoy baths and brushing.  The more attention the better, is what I say!  Mommy says I am one gorgeous boy.

I do require GenTeal lubricating drops for my eyes at least twice a day, but I am a very good boy when my mommy puts them in.  They can be purchased at the drug store for about $11 a tube.

I am being fostered by Eskie Rescuers in Tampa, FL.  My adoption fee is $200.  If you think you'd like to meet me and maybe share your heart and home with me, please complete an online adoption application at www.eskierescuers.org.  If you have any questions, please email dyan@eskierescuers.org.

April 24, 2015 - UPDATE FROM FOSTER

Lately, at the end of day, we are all in bed for snuggle/love/brush time.  Augie has really started talking, he tells me all about his day along with loving wiggling and rolling. Still waits to be invited up on furniture.  While I am at work, he stays in Augie's den (bedroom), and in morning now he knows routine....knows exactly when and goes into his den, gets on bed and waits for his love before I leave.  I do this, as I would not be comfortable leaving him out with my little senior girl.   I do leave him out on weekends and all is well.

He is very smart, patient and always, politely waits his turn when lettuce or other snacks and regular dinners are handed out.

He does get extremely excited to go out back and play.  He now jumps almost my height (5'8").  The workers were like WOW, when they saw him do that.

I have gone from barefoot girl to wearing slippers inside, that way he can hear me.  And is always right with me.

Such an angel too about his eyes.  I always gently  clean them (with saline) first and then use the drops. ...never a problem.

Good with Dogs

Special Needs: Blind in both eyes. Opthamologist diagnosis: Hypermature cataracts both eyes, Corneal mineral deposits both eyes, Eyes had glaucoma previously, Iris has adhered to the lens Too late for surgery, treatment is to keep comfortable, keep eyes well lubricated.

Whenever possible Eskie Rescuers United tries to adopt out its dogs locally (or at least to adopters in adjoining states to where I'm being fostered). Please note that ERU processes LOCAL adoption applications before considering those from out of state.

If I'm not local to you, as explained above, and you really have your heart set on me, you will have to make special arrangements so ERU can get me to you safely (for example, flying me to you at your own expense, or paying a transport group to drive me to you). Note: We may ask that you to make a donation to cover transport costs if the distance is great and we have trouble finding transport drivers.

There is an adoption fee required; and, please be aware, Eskie Rescuers United will not adopt out its dogs as outdoor dogs.
