Dear Veteran: Thank you for your interest in our Vets Foster Pets program. We set up this program for two reasons. First, we would like to increase the number of skilled foster caregivers in the Baltimore area in order to rescue and save the lives of more dogs. Second, we would like to examine the relationship between fostering and leisure-time physical activity, health, and quality of life in Veterans.
If you would like to be a part of our research study, we require the following: (1) that you live in the Baltimore, MD area, (2) that you do not currently have a dog in your home, (3) that you do not have children younger than 12 years of age in your home, and (4) that you are willing and able to walk your foster dog daily, weather permitting.
This program provides a foster dog for a two month period, along with dog food, crate (if needed), leash, collar, harness, dog bed, and food and water bowls. We provide all medical care (spay, neuter, monthly preventatives, etc.) for the foster dog. After you complete and submit this foster application we will be in contact with you to set up the next steps (interview, home visit, etc.). The final step in this process will be to consent to participate in the research study.
